CONCORD, N.C. — Following weeks of paddock speculation, Sam Hunt Racing and Harrison Burton officially announced on Sunday that they will part ways at the end of the 2026 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, with Burton locking in his future by joining Peterson Racing for 2027.

Burton, son of NASCAR legend and broadcaster Jeff Burton, has endured a grueling 2026 campaign marked by mechanical misfortunes and hard crashes that resulted in six DNFs across the regular season and early playoff stretch.

Speculation regarding a potential change accelerated in early October as team officials evaluated competition metrics. On October 11, both organizations formalized the transition, confirming that Burton will take the wheel of Peterson Racing’s No. 78 Chevrolet starting with the 2027 season opener.

"This season hasn't yielded the results we fought for every week, but I'm grateful to Sam Hunt Racing for their unwavering effort," Burton stated following the announcement. "Turning the page to join Peterson Racing gives me a fresh opportunity to rebuild momentum and fight for race wins in the No. 78 Chevrolet."

Peterson Racing ownership welcomed Burton’s arrival, citing his pedigree and victory lane experience as key assets to elevate the team’s overall technical development as they prepare for a full-time Xfinity Series entry in 2027.
