CONCORD, N.C. — NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver and team owner Jennifer Jo Cobb is actively contesting an extraordinary $850,002 court verdict after a North Carolina jury found her liable in a high-profile civil lawsuit involving a former team spotter.

The legal action, brought by Tracey Hughes under North Carolina’s rare "alienation of affection" and "criminal conversation" statutes, alleged that Cobb’s personal relationship with former spotter Clayton Hughes directly caused the breakdown of a 17-year marriage. Following a three-day trial in Davidson County, the jury awarded $50,000 for alienation of affection alongside $800,000 for criminal conversation.

While the plaintiff publicly expressed vindication following the September 24 ruling, Cobb’s legal team launched immediate post-trial motions entering October, urging the presiding judge to set aside the verdict and dispute the entry of judgment.

"This isn't over. The judgment has not been entered," Cobb stated when addressing the trial's outcome, maintaining that the couple was already separated prior to their involvement and asserting that her defense was restricted during courtroom proceedings.

The lingering court battle adds immense financial uncertainty for Jennifer Jo Cobb Racing. As Cobb's attorneys push for judicial review, paddock observers continue to monitor how the headline-grabbing legal dispute will impact her independent program's operational future.
