NASCAR officials have officially issued a $50,000 fine to driver Zane Smith following a heated post-race retaliation incident involving Carson Hocevar at Phoenix Raceway.

The penalization stems from conduct occurring immediately after the checkered flag at the one-mile Arizona oval. Video evidence confirmed that Smith intentionally drove his Chevrolet into Hocevar’s machine along the cool-down lap, expressing frustration over aggressive physical racing between the two during the closing stage.

NASCAR competition executives reinforced that while fierce rivalry remains central to stock car racing, deliberate post-race contact creates severe safety hazards for track workers, safety crews, and fellow drivers.

"Ensuring safety during post-race cool-down periods is non-negotiable," NASCAR race control stated regarding the behavioral penalty. "Driver emotion is expected, but utilizing a 3,300-pound race car as a physical weapon after the checkered flag warrants strict disciplinary measures."

The financial penalty adds fuel to an escalating rivalry between the two rising stars as the Cup Series field transitions to high-pack drafting at Talladega Superspeedway.
